Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, a season that leads up to the commemoration of Jesus’ crucifixion. Many Christians use this season as an opportunity to focus on the habit of repentance, being especially aware of their sins and the high price Jesus had to pay because of them.

When Jesus first began to preach, this was the message that he was known for: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near” (Matthew 4:17).  What was this “repentance” that Jesus commanded people to practice? As we’ll see this Ash Wednesday, it’s much more than just saying you are sorry. It includes a change in the way you live.
